Essentials

This may be controversial, but there are some essentials needed for raising children: a crib, a handheld vacuum, and stain remover.

Crib: Obviously. A safe sleeping place for that little critter that you grew for 10 months.

Handheld vacuum: I used mine daily especially to clean up after a toddler meal. Even now that they're older, it's still in regular use.

Stain remover: I should've invested in Shout! brand stain remover. Between the spills and stains on clothes, we go through a bottle every two weeks.

I would argue that a 4th essential is a good foundation of knowledge for the Puberty Talk, which Dr. Nancy and I have constructed for you in the Mom Video. It contains all of the anatomy, physiology and hygiene that you need to communicate to your daughter.

Parents fear this talk. They fear they'll mess it up or use the wrong words, and that fear leads to procrastination. In days of old, parents would hand their kids a pamphlet or book, leaving the child bewildered and uninformed. We're changing the way girls learn about puberty because we can do better! We already have with our safer cribs, more suction-y vacuums, and superior stain lifters. :)
