We can do hard things.
Jun 24, 2026
My first daughter was born in New Orleans two months before I graduated residency. It was grueling. I was operating by day and caring for a newborn at night. On maternity leave, I was breastfeeding her and finishing my research project. I think I still have PTSD.
Those newborn months were hard. I lived it, and now I help my postpartum patients through it. But as my children have grown, I know that all stages come with joy and hardships. One of the hardest tasks in motherhood is preparing our daughters for the changes -physical and mental- of her growing body encountered during puberty. Adolescent health is not for the faint of heart. My pediatrician friend and partner, Dr. Nancy, knows this better than anyone. She sees the changes in real time in her pediatric practice.
As a parent, you’ve heard your share of whining and complaining. When my three kids whine about a chore, a deadline, or a minor inconvenience, I like to remind them that “We can do hard things!” I know moms, dads, and trusted caregivers everywhere will benefit from In Full Bloom, MD. Why? Because it makes talking about puberty and hormonal changes less terrifying, awkward and hard.
